I quit my job a little over a year ago. I absolutely loved working for By The Hand, an inner-city after-school program helping nearly 1000 kids in Chicago. I LOVED IT and what they were doing, but knew I couldn't give my full self to both work and to my son that was growing in my ever-evolving belly. I felt God drawing me out of that job, but hated that I didn't know what was next. I am a person who likes to know what is going to happen not only tomorrow, but in 5 years, so the unknown was scary to me.
I remember 6 months ago, when my mother-in-law (who is awesome by the way), was over. I cried to her not knowing what in the world I was going to do, knowing that we needed a double income, at least for now. Then I cried out to God and asked Him what He wanted next from me and that I was ready to be obedient. It is amazing when you come to Him, rather than trying to figure it out on your own, He totally shows up. As my old boss would say, He is always on time, rarely early. That was the case for me.
So then I started remembering all the people who told me that I should start selling the pieces that I was making around our house because they would fly out the door. The fact that I might fail at it held my feet in place though. But then, I realized if I wanted to stay at home with my son, this might work. So the next week, as an experiment, I posted a few items around our house that I had done on Craigslist. They sold within an hour!!! So that is the fire that I needed ignited under my rear to launch MegMade.
Now, five months later, we have sold more than 30 pieces and are LOVING it. We now even have a mailing list with our items and have a waiting list for some!! Can you believe it?!?! God truly is blessing our hands and we are in awe.
Thank you so much for following us on our journey. We are so excited to share LOADS more before and afters, tutorials, our new house reno and little tid bits about us!
Let me know what you want to see more of and if you are considering starting to redo furniture, JUST DO IT :)
